Wavion and the Technological Laboratories of Uruguay (LATU) have deployed Wavion’s solutions in Uruguay.
LATU is the organization leading the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program in Uruguay, known as the CEIBAL Project (Basic Connectivity for Education).
Wavion’s base stations are expected to deliver high-speed wireless Internet to schools in several provinces and to towns and villages.
A unique and powerful digital beamforming technology is embedded in Wavion’s spatially adaptive base stations. This technology provides extended range and penetration as well as minimizes dead spots. Requiring about one third fewer units than other competing access points (APs) to cover the same area, it provides a high quality network for all the variety of applications enabled by Wi-Fi

. Wavion’s technology can improve the link gain and quality to 802.11 standards-based Wi-Fi clients – such as those found in OLPC’s XO laptop and other notebook computers.
Applauding LATU for their pioneering project in Uruguay, OLPC visionary and founder Nicholas Negroponte (

It therefore significantly enhances the learning experience by extending the learning process beyond school hours and enables children to share their experience with their families and friends.
Miguel Brechner, president of LATU explained that after lengthy comparative testing and a careful selection process, they chose Wavion as one of the main technologies to deliver wireless Internet access in the CEIBAL project.
Brechner indicated that this is the first step in their plan to provide such level of connectivity to all the provinces of Uruguay.
