Huawei Develops 100G Wavelength-Division Multiplexing Prototype
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Huawei (News - Alert) has announced the successful development of its 100G wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) prototype. Boasting a transmission distance of up to 2,000km without using electrical regenerators, Huawei’ s 100G WDM prototype supports smooth upgrades from 10G/40G technologies.

Christian Chua, president of Huawei’s Transport Network Product Line said that the successful development of 100G WDM technologies reflects their company’s strength in the optical network domain.

Chua observed that Huawei will continue to invest in long-haul high-speed transport technologies, promote the development of 100G WDM technologies, and will strive to alleviate the bandwidth pressure facing telecom operators today.

Huawei’s 100G WDM prototype is expected to further promote and accelerate the commercial use of 100G WDM-based solutions.

According to company sources, the increase in broadband services has placed significant bandwidth demands and 100G WDM technology represents the next-generation in high-speed transport. With this technology, operators can transmit 10 times the traffic as compared to 10G WDM technology, the most popular networking bandwidth. Huawei believes the100G WDM lays the foundation for telecom operators to deploy ultra-broadband services such as HDTV and multi-play in the future.

Huawei was recently in news for announcing that it has participated in a Mobile PlugFest, sponsored by the WiMAX (News - Alert) Forum and hosted by AT4wireless in Malaga, Spain.

During the Mobile PlugFest, 28 member companies including terminal vendors, infrastructure vendors, and service and chipset providers participated in interoperability testing for the development of the WiMAX industry.
