Spectrum Blue Steel announces new Biosphere facility
TMCnet Contributing Editor

Spectrum (News - Alert) Blue Steel Corporation has announced that it has finalized a blueprint for Zero Waste Philippines with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the city of Morong, Rizal, Philippines and Mayor Joseph Buenaventura for the establishment of a pilot Biosphere Gasification Power Plant.

The Global Environmental Energy Corporation has granted Spectrum Blue Steel the exclusive license to market, sell, promote and operate the Biosphere Process and Technology in the Philippines.
According to official sources, the process creates electricity by destroying waste in a cost-effective manner without polluting the environment. The Biosphere Process creates electricity by gasifying traditional and non-traditional waste materials and/or fossil fuels. This process is done in a limited oxygen environment thereby limiting atmospheric emissions. The combustible gas produced is referred to as "syngas".
Ronald Shane Flynn, President of Spectrum Blue Steel Corporation announced through a press briefing that at first, a 1200 MSW Biosphere facility would be installed in Morong, Rizal. The facility would generate about 6-700 MW of green energy per day. Flynn said the green energy generated by the plant would be sold to electric distribution cooperatives at a cheaper price.
The Philippines government is prioritizing the use of green energy and is planning to deploy increasing number of renewable energy systems in the next ten years.
Stating that Spectrum Blue Steel was committed to a greener environment and cheap electricity, Flynn noted that the Arroyo administration and local executives are focused on indigenous sources of energy. The government has announced the Medium Term Development Plan, a critical component of this plan is to harness and utilize renewable energy and eventually lessen Philippines' dependency on imported and polluting fuels.
Spectrum Blue Steel expects to deploy 1,500 Biosphere Systems in the Philippines. The company is coordinating with the Union of Local Associations of the Philippines (ULAP) in connection with the project. ULAP is the umbrella organization of all governors, mayors and all officials over 1,700 towns and cities nationwide.
According to the press release, Morong, Rizal is a small town with a population of 52,000 people and 10,000 households. The city is the site of a 40 hectare sanitary landfill generating almost 8,000 tons per day garbage from cities in Metro Manila. Metro Manila is the metropolitan area of the city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
Recently, Spectrum Blue Steel announced a consortium agreement with Al Manhal International Group of Abu Dhabi, UAE to market the Global Environmental Biosphere system in Gulf, Arab, African and other Asian and European countries. The consortium plans to deploy a 'zero waste' municipal solid waste treatment alternative using the Biosphere process.
