Turin Networks (News - Alert), a provider of carrier Ethernet solutions for wireline and wireless network operators, announced that its products -Traverse multiservice transport switch, TraverseEdge (News - Alert) 100 and TraverseEdge 206 have successfully completed interoperability testing with the United States Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) at Indian Head, Maryland. The assessment and approval from JITC will allow “Turin’s tested products” to be deployed in U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) networks. 

 

JITC provided Turin with a full-range of responsive and cost-effective test, evaluation and certification services to support the U.S. DoD’s rapid acquisition and as well as deployment of Turin's products, on DoD’s network. The interoperability testing will as well facilitate aggregation, switching and transport of Ethernet, IP and TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) services on DoD’s network, thereby supporting the defense organization’s net-centric war-fighting capabilities. 

 

Turin’s carrier-grade Traverse multiservice transport switch family primarily provides aggregation, switching and transport of Ethernet and TDM services from a single shelf. The Traverse platform, which features scalability of up to 100 Gbps per system, is specifically optimized for deployments in service hubs, central offices, cable head-ends, co-location facilities and high capacity aggregation sites. 

 

Turin’s TraverseEdge platforms are ideally suited for large access deployments ranging from outside plant cabinets, base deployments, and customer premises environments (CPE), and as well as at wireless cell site locations.  

 

Turin TraverseEdge platform’s TraverseEdge 100 (TE-100) is an edge multiplexer that delivers converged Ethernet and IP services as well as legacy voice and TDM services. It incorporates fully integrated SONET/SDH ADM and Ethernet switching in a 2RU (2 Rack units = 8.89 centimeters) compact shelf. The edge multiplexer is targeted for wireless, wireline, and private network applications and ideally suited for metro access rings.  

 

Turin TraverseEdge 206 (TE-206) is also an edge multiplexer that integrates a SONET Add/Drop multiplexer (ADM) and Ethernet switching in a rugged 2RU (2 Rack units) high shelf. Its carrier-class design provides full protection for all ports/services and common components.  

 

Henry Wasik (News - Alert), president and CEO of Turin Networks, said that the scalability and versatility features in the company’s Traverse and TraverseEdge products will facilitate the government customers to make the transition from a circuit-based to a packet-optimized infrastructure, in order to better support net-centric applications.

 

Wasik also said that the company’s iConnect for carrier Ethernet communications solutions offers both economical and secure bridges from legacy TDM to packet-centric networking.
