With this contract, CHT will get 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS) from Alcatel. This is a scalable Ethernet/MPLS aggregation solution that facilitates carriers to offer high-bandwidth, high-speed Internet (HSI), video and voice services. CHT will now get higher network capacity and provide FTTB subscribers with fast data transfer at the download speeds of 10Mbps, 50Mbps and 100Mbps for services including high speed Internet, IPTV (

For consumer triple-play services, the Alcatel-Lucent 7450 ESS provides high-density service-aware Ethernet/MPLS aggregation. To facilitate the delivery of profitable Ethernet business services in metro, national and international network environments, the platform also sets a new market standard. With an IP/MPLS-based architecture that supports a wide range of interfaces with excellent performance combined with subscriber- and service-awareness, the 7450 ESS is built for the service provider market. Service providers can now offer new revenue-generating services in consumer and enterprise markets with the help of 7450 ESS.
Consisting of an investment of approximately $1.8 billion to construct an island-wide fiber optical network over a five-year period, the new contract is part of CHT’s “Optical Era Project.” The final aim of the project is to bring fiber optic connections to 2.4 million subscribers by 2010.
Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS portfolio has been selected by more than 230 service providers in more than 90 countries around the world as key elements of their IP transformation.
“CHT has been a customer of our Ethernet/MPLS aggregation solutions since 2005 and following a successful trial in August, Alcatel-Lucent has once again been chosen for this network expansion project,” said Larry Chai, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in Taiwan. “We’re committed to work with CHT on its initiative to support Taiwan in its quest to become a fiber-enabled nation.”
