Allied Telesis' iMG Deployed in SureWest Sacramento Fiber-to-the-Home Networks
TMCnet Contributing Editor

SureWest Communications has approved Allied Telesis’ iMG626MOD for active fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployment in Sacramento by SureWest’s (News - Alert) operating subsidiaries in the region.

SureWest, an independent communications holding company, is already a happy customer of Allied Telesis (News - Alert) who has delivered Intelligent Multiservice Gateways (iMGs) to the company for FTTH since 2004. According to Allied Telesis, this fourth generation of iMG was chosen following extensive testing and field trials of the iMG600 MOD.

Bill Allen, vice president of sales and operations, Allied Telesis, said that their company is pleased that SureWest has decided to deploy their latest evolution of home gateway. Noting SureWest as a popular name in FTTH deployments, Allen said this deployment proves that their innovations in achieving OPEX (News - Alert) savings through the iMG MOD reflect industry needs.

SureWest Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Bill DeMuth (News - Alert), recognized that Allied Telesis’ gateway reliability offers a significant OPEX benefit and savings for broadband providers and is confident that once installed into their network, it will help them deliver superior performance and enhanced reliability to their customers.

The company was especially impressed by two additional benefits of the iMG MOD: the integrated HPNA and its extensive remote diagnostics. Allied Telesis’ iMG MOD not only decreases install times but it also reduces truck rolls for in home wiring issues. DeMuth emphasized that both these capabilities help them gain new subscribers and maintain long-term customer relationships.

Allied Telesis is a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet access solutions and specializes in the deployment of IP Triple Play (News - Alert) networks over copper and fiber access infrastructures.

In related news, the company recently announced an 8 port managed Gigabit WebSmart switch with Power over Ethernet and silent operation. The new AT-GS950/8POE was reportedly designed to replace their AT-GS900/8POE and meet the demand for higher data transfer rates over long distances.
