Novatel Wireless Debuts New Micro-Sized USB Modem for Augmented Broadband Access
Novatel Wireless, a provider of wireless broadband solutions, has introduced a new micro-sized broadband Internet device/modem to its Ovation USB (universal serial bus) portfolio,
Ovation MC760 Micro Modem. The new ‘EVDO Rev. A’ USB modem offers mobile broadband Internet access along with integrated file storage via
microSD and enhanced speed and performance.
For those who are not familiar with EVDO Rev. A, it stands for evolution-data optimized or evolution-data only. It is a telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data via radio signals, especially for broadband Internet access. It leverages multiplexing techniques such as code division multiple access (CDMA) and time division multiple access (TDMA), in order to maximize an individual user's throughput and the overall system throughput.
The Ovation MC760 can support EV-DO Rev.A up to 3.1 Mbps data speed for download packet and up to 1.8 Mbps data speed for upload packet.
With the support for computing devices that are equipped with Type A USB ports (like desktops, notebooks and PDAs), the MC760 micro USB modem offers instant mobile broadband access where a cellular signal is available.
According to Novatel, the Ovation MC760 is the smallest available EVDO Rev. A USB modem in the industry. This small device weighs less than an ounce and is two inches long.
Featuring NovaSpeed software technology, the Ovation MC760 can offer better performance, says the company. The NovaSpeed software technology augments broadband connections by allowing both upload and download packets to be sent and received simultaneously, thereby enabling significant performance improvement. This offers users with enhanced experience while online gaming and large file transfers - with minimized interruptions or buffering.
The Ovation MC760 provides out-of-the-box support for various operating systems such as Windows (Vista, XP, 2000), Mac and Linux, thereby facilitating device users to surf the Internet, check e-mail and access important business documents with enhanced speeds (faster than most cable or DSL connections).
Other key features of the Ovation MC760 include: plug-and-play; on-board global positioning system (GPS); an integrated microSD slot, which enables the device to store up to 8GB of files, videos or music with the use of a hot-swappable SD storage card; an advanced internal dual band antenna system, which facilitates for enhanced performance - on network fringe areas and can receive 800/1900 MHz; service status LED indicator that displays the connection status of the device; and
Mobilink’s Lite connection manager software to simplify the set-up/installation process and navigation through the device’s feature set.
The Ovation MC760 also has security features that include CDMA authentication and identification, and dynamic MIP (mobile IP) key update.
"The launch of the MC760 reinforces our commitment to deliver the most advanced mobile broadband solutions for our customers," said Peter Leparulo, chairman and CEO, Novatel Wireless (
