Global Crossing Inks Next-Gen IP Services Deal With HM Revenue & Customs
TMCnet Contributing Editor

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will reportedly use Global Crossing’s (News - Alert) hosted IP telephony service for the operation of all its telephony services across the UK, supporting 85,000 users.

Global Crossing will provide their service through an OGCbuying.solutions contract and HMRC staff throughout the UK will gradually migrate to this hosted IP telephony service.

This security-accredited telecoms service provides fully managed voice, data networking, hosted IP telephony, mobile working services and value added services. By moving towards a pan-government, secure hosted IP telephony platform, HMRC ensures that it is leading the way in the Government's best practice and realizing the business benefits of a flexible, managed and secure telephony solution.

Global Crossing CEO John Legere expressed his company’s delight for being chosen for this new contract by one of the largest government departments in the country to migrate its legacy telephony network to next generation technology. He believes this contract demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to public sector customers and its ability to transform legacy estates into converged IP environments.

According to Legere, the opportunity to support the UK Government in its initiative to transform its telecommunications services by offering secure next generation hosted IP services to its customers is a core focus in their support of government business.

Global Crossing provides telecommunications solutions over the world's first integrated global IP-based network. Connecting approximately 390 cities in more than 30 countries worldwide, its core network delivers services to approximately 690 cities in more than 60 countries and 6 continents around the globe.
