Talkster (News - Alert), a voice 2.0 company, recently took its ad-supported Free World Dialing call service to Skype Unlimited and Skype subscription service customers. This addition will enable Skype (News - Alert) users from over 30 countries to make free international and long distance calls from their personal computer (PC) to any phone, mobile or landline.
Earlier, the Skype Unlimited North America subscription charged users up to 36 cents per minute to make international calls to mobile phones and landlines. The Skype Unlimited Mexico subscription costs $5.95 a month with unlimited calls to landlines in just three areas of Mexico. For the rest of Mexico, there were additional charges of 2 cents per minute for landlines and 20 cents per minute for cell phones. All these calls will be made completely free with Talkster’s Free World Dialing.
“For Skype users, calling mobile phones in other countries is the highest cost phone call they can make,” commented James Wanless, chief operating officer and founder, Talkster.
“The addition of Talkster’s Free World Dialing for Skype frees these callers to talk with friends and family around the world on mobile phones and landlines without having to purchase costly credits, and furthers Talkster’s mission of providing ad-supported free telephony worldwide,” added Wanless.
It is possible for new users to access Talkster’s Free World Dialing by visiting its Web site and setting up Talkster phone numbers for themselves and their friends and family. For this, users will have to provide their name and phone number and the name and phone number of the person they want to call. Talkster will then issue new local Talkster numbers for both parties which they can use for calling each other free of cost.
Current Skype users will have to change their Skype Caller ID to their Talkster phone number (i.e.) the number they provided for setting up Talkster. After changing the Skype Caller ID number, users will have to follow the standard steps for placing a call with Talkster.
The whole system works when the user dials the friend’s assigned Talkster number, Talkster then calls the friend with instructions to hang up and call back from their free local Talkster number. After staying on the line, users can talk for free after listening to a 10-second audio ad preceding their call.
